question:Q: occasional crashes For the last few months, Ubuntu (20.04, on a thinkpad T480) has been crashing for me about once a week. When it happens, everything begins to get slow (everything starts to become unresponsive/laggy, until the mouse starts to slow down and then the screen is completely just frozen). Ctrl+ALT+F3 doesn't do anything, I seemingly have no choice but to hard-reboot the computer. I'm usually using firefox at the time, but I'm not sure that means anything because I'm in general using firefox most of the time. I thought it's about time i try to figure out what's going on and if there's anything I can do about it. On another question I saw that it might help to view the output of journalctl -b -1 -e after a crash, I did that and uploaded the output to https://pastebin.com/yZQpK5KT (below is an excerpt that meets the stackexchange character limit) May 14 13:30:04 Halley gnome-shell[1807]: Window manager warning: Invalid WM_TRANSIENT_FOR window 0x5400014 specified for 0x5400525. How much RAM is installed and how does this compare to the size of the new swapfile?

answer:Based on the output of `lshw -C memory`, there is 8GiB of RAM installed. The text suggests increasing the swapfile size to 4G. So the new swapfile size (4G) is smaller than the amount of RAM (8GiB) installed.

question:What is the best way to write a formal congratulatory letter?

answer:When writing a formal congratulatory letter, the key is to be sincere, professional, and timely. Here's a general outline to help you craft a well-structured and effective congratulatory letter: Start with a formal salutation, addressing the recipient by their title (if applicable) and last name. Make sure to use a professional tone from the beginning. Begin the letter by expressing your warmest congratulations to the recipient on their achievement or milestone. Be specific about what you're congratulating them for, as this will show that you're genuinely interested in their success. Next, acknowledge the recipient's hard work, dedication, or perseverance that led to their achievement. You can mention how their accomplishment will positively impact their life, organization, or community. If you have a personal connection with the recipient, you can include a brief anecdote or memory that illustrates their growth or progress. However, keep this part concise and avoid overly sentimental language. Close the letter by reiterating your congratulations and offering your best wishes for the recipient's future endeavors. Sign off with a professional closing, such as Sincerely or Best regards, followed by your full name and title (if applicable). Here's an example of a formal congratulatory letter: Dear [Recipient's Name], I am writing to offer my warmest congratulations on your recent [achievement or milestone]. This is a remarkable accomplishment, and I am thrilled to see you achieve this success. Your dedication and perseverance have truly paid off, and I have no doubt that this achievement will have a lasting impact on [organization or community]. I am honored to have had the opportunity to [briefly mention your connection to the recipient, if applicable]. Once again, please accept my sincerest congratulations on this outstanding achievement. I wish you continued success and all the best in your future endeavors. Sincerely, [Your Name] When writing a congratulatory letter, remember to be genuine, clear, and concise. Proofread your letter carefully to ensure that it is error-free and polished.

question:How to make your writing more precise and concise, with clarity as the ultimate goal in general writing?

answer:To achieve clarity in your writing, focus on making it precise and concise. Here are some strategies to help you achieve this: To be more precise, avoid vague words and phrases. Instead of using general terms like many, a lot, or some, try to be specific. For example, 25 percent of the population is more precise than a significant portion. When describing events or actions, use active voice instead of passive voice, as it tends to be more direct and engaging. For instance, The manager announced the new policy is more precise than The new policy was announced by the manager. To be more concise, eliminate unnecessary words and phrases. Look for sentences that can be shortened without losing their meaning. Remove words like just, really, or basically that don't add value to your message. Be cautious with adverbs; instead of saying he spoke loudly, you could say he shouted. Break up long sentences or paragraphs into shorter ones to improve the flow and clarity of your writing. Use clear and simple language. Avoid jargon or technical terms that might confuse your readers. If you need to use specialized vocabulary, make sure to explain it clearly. Use concrete, tangible examples to illustrate abstract concepts. This will help your readers visualize and understand your message more easily. Use active and descriptive verbs. Verbs like to be (is, are, was, were) can make your writing seem passive and less engaging. Instead, use verbs that convey action and emotion, such as describe, analyze, or explore. This will add depth and nuance to your writing. Use precise nouns. Avoid using vague or general terms like thing or stuff. Instead, use specific nouns that accurately convey your meaning. For example, The new smartphone features a high-resolution camera is more precise than The new device has a good camera. Show, don't tell. Rather than telling your readers what to feel or think, show them through descriptive language and sensory details. This will help them become more engaged and immersed in your writing. Finally, revise and edit your work. Clarity is often achieved through the editing process, so take the time to review your writing and make adjustments as needed. Here's an example of how these strategies can improve clarity: Original sentence: The new policy, which was announced by the manager, is really going to change a lot of things around here. Revised sentence: The manager announced a new policy that will increase productivity by 15 percent and reduce costs by 20 percent. In the revised sentence, the language is more precise, concise, and clear. The use of specific numbers and active voice makes the message more direct and engaging.

Too many transitional phrases can make your writing seem forced or artificial. * Use a variety of transitional phrases to avoid repetition and add nuance to your writing. * Place transitional phrases at the beginning of a sentence or paragraph to create a clear connection to the previous idea. * Use transitional phrases to connect ideas within a paragraph, as well as between paragraphs. In addition to transitional phrases, you can also use transitional sentences to connect ideas between paragraphs. These sentences can be used to: * Summarize the main point of the previous paragraph * Preview the main point of the next paragraph * Provide a bridge between two ideas or paragraphs Example: Having discussed the benefits of the new policy, it is also important to consider its potential drawbacks.
